Solid boards are cut from a single piece of hardwood. We lay them over battens, plywood or a prepared slab, then sand and coat the whole floor on site. That gives you a flat, continuous finish with no bevelled edges and no gaps for dirt to settle in.
We help you choose the species, grade and board width to suit the house, and we'll tell you honestly if engineered boards would do the job better.
Species we lay most
Samples come with us to every on-site measure, so you can see them in your own light.
Blackbutt
Pale honey tones, very hard wearing. The Melbourne favourite.
Spotted gum
Rich browns with lively grain and natural colour variation.
Tasmanian oak
Soft straw and pink tones. Takes stain beautifully.
Brushbox
Warm red-brown, fine even grain, extremely dense.

Prep and acclimatise
Boards are delivered early to settle to your home. Subfloor levelled and prepped.
Laying
Boards are set out, glued and secret-nailed. Doorways, stairs and trims finished properly.
Sand, coat and hand over
Three-pass sand and your chosen finish, then a walk-through of every room.

Questions we get asked
How long does a new timber floor take?
Most homes take [X to X] days to lay and another [X] days to sand and coat. You get a firm schedule with your quote.
Can you match my existing boards?
Usually, yes. We identify the species and board width, source the closest match and sand old and new together so the finish is consistent.
Can solid timber go over a concrete slab?
Yes, with the right preparation. We test the slab for moisture, then lay over a moisture barrier and plywood or use a direct-stick system, depending on the site.
When can we walk on it?
Light foot traffic in socks after [24] hours. Furniture back after [X] days. We leave you a simple timeline.
